A road was cordoned off after a fire broke out at a derelict pub in Stretford on Monday evening (June 15). Fire crews rushed to The Robin Hood pub on Barton Road.
Smoke was seen billowing from the roof of the venue, which has been empty since 2018, as firefighters tackled the blaze. An 'avoid the area' warning was put in place during the incident.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Earlier this year, it was revealed that the vandal-hit pub was earmarked for potential redevelopment into new homes. This followed years of vandalism and a previous fire.
Community Attempts to Save Pub Failed
After the pub closed, the local community had the opportunity to purchase it and submit proposals for its future. However, a crowdfunding campaign failed to raise the necessary funds.
On Monday night, several fire engines were seen outside the pub as the area became shrouded in smoke. Videos shared with the M.E.N showed crews working to bring the fire under control.
Emergency services were alerted shortly before 10pm, with multiple fire engines responding. Nearby residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed.
