The family of a 27-year-old man who died after a collision on the M56 in Greater Manchester have paid tribute, saying his baby daughter had given him a new purpose in life.
Cody Lowndes was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services were called to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the motorway on Saturday evening.
His family said Cody had been "turning his life around" before his death.
Family's tribute
In a statement, they said: "Cody was turning his life around. The knowledge that his beautiful daughter will never know the real Cody that we all knew and loved is a hurt that we will struggle to heal, along with the knowledge that we will never get to see Cody live his life to his full potential. The potential we knew he always had."
They added: "We will always love Cody, and he will live on in our hearts and memories. Please let us mourn Cody in peace, as a family. As a family we are heartbroken that our best friend Cody has passed away. Cody struggled throughout his life as people may have known, despite the love and care of his family. Cody finally found a purpose in his life through his beautiful baby."
Police pursuit details
Greater Manchester Police said emergency services were called following a collision between a car and a pedestrian on the M56. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Cody was declared dead at the scene.
Police had previously said officers spotted a motorbike being ridden "in a dangerous manner" on the M60 near Stockport Pyramid before a pursuit began and continued onto the M56.
Officers made "tactical contact" with the motorbike near Junction 5 at Hale Barns before the bike was later brought to a stop near Wythenshawe, according to police.
GMP said the motorbike rider then "made off on foot across the motorway" before being involved in a collision with another vehicle.
Arrest and aftermath
A second man, who police said was not involved in the original pursuit, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.
He was also arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving uninsured.
The motorway was closed for several hours following the incident while emergency services and investigators worked at the scene.
