Crime Scene Cleaner Recalls Grim Discovery of Cat in Freezer During Chelmsford Job

A crime scene cleaner has recounted the disturbing moment she discovered a cat in a freezer while working on a routine job in Chelmsford. Lauren Baker, who features in a new documentary series, shared the experience on ITV's This Morning.

Baker explained that the cat belonged to a hoarder who had kept the animal's body in the freezer after it died, unable to part with it. She said: 'Yeah that was a bit much. They just couldn't part with it but I did have to step in and say this isn't hygienic, you can't have this in there with your food as well. Can we go and bury it in the garden? Let's have a ceremony.'

The 10-episode series, Crime Scene Cleaners, follows expert teams across the UK and US as they tackle the aftermath of murders, drug dens, robberies, and arson attacks. The show offers a unique peek into the lives of these unsung heroes who face humanity's darkest nightmares every day.

Baker, from Kent, described the emotional toll of the job: 'It's tough when you walk into an unattended death. Especially if you've got a decomposition going on as well. And mentally, it does affect you. It takes a strong mind to be able to go in and clean something like that.'

She added: 'Don't get me wrong, there's been times when I have sat there and had a little cry. Because I have genuinely felt for that person, and I've put myself in their shoes and it is tough.'

Crime Scene Cleaners launches at 10pm on Monday 30 June on Channel 4, with all episodes available to stream.
