Teenager Chloe Watson Stabbed to Death in Leeds Street, Four Arrested
A 16-year-old girl who died after being discovered unconscious in a quiet Leeds street was stabbed in the back, police have confirmed today. The victim has been named locally as Chloe Watson, from Cleckheaton, approximately 13 miles from the scene of the incident.
Early Morning Tragedy in Austhorpe
West Yorkshire Police were called at 5.55am on Saturday, 28 March, to reports of a young woman found unresponsive on Kennerleigh Avenue in the Austhorpe suburb of Leeds. The area is described as a peaceful street primarily consisting of retirement bungalows, typically very quiet according to residents.
Chloe had sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment. Despite the efforts of medical staff, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. A murder investigation was immediately launched, with specialist forensic officers sealing off the road to examine the scene for crucial evidence.
Neighbour's Desperate Attempt to Save Life
Neighbour Wayne Mallows, 64, recounted the harrowing moments when he and other residents attempted to save the "lifeless" girl. He told the Daily Mail that he was alerted around 5.50am by a dog walker who informed him that a neighbour was performing CPR on a young girl on the pavement.
"I took over until the ambulance arrived ten minutes later. She had been stabbed in the back and there was quite a bit of blood. Her eyes were just blank," Mr Mallows said. He described how he performed chest compressions on the teenager while ambulance control provided instructions via a phone on loudspeaker.
Paramedics arrived around 6am and continued resuscitation efforts for about five minutes before transporting Chloe to the ambulance. Mr Mallows expressed his distress, stating he cannot erase the image of her face from his mind. "To me she looked very young, younger than 16. She was wearing a skimpy blouse with a little beige coat over it, and a dress and she had thick socks on," he added.
Four Teenagers Arrested in Connection
In a significant development, West Yorkshire Police have arrested four teenagers on suspicion of murder. The suspects include two 18-year-old girls, a 17-year-old boy, and a 19-year-old boy. All are currently being questioned by officers as part of the ongoing investigation.
Initially, police appealed for information to identify the victim, describing her as a green-eyed girl with braces on her teeth. Today, they confirmed she has been "positively identified" and that her family are receiving support from specially-trained officers.
Family Grief and Community Tributes
Chloe's relatives are understandably devastated. A man who answered the door at her mother's home in Cleckheaton was too upset to comment. Outside the property, several floral tributes and heartfelt cards have been left by mourners.
Extensive online tributes have flooded social media platforms such as Facebook and TikTok, highlighting the impact of Chloe's loss. One message read: "Rest in eternal peace beautiful girl, u was loved by many and gunna be missed forever." Another tribute praised her personality: "Your bubbly personality, your weird laugh, your cringy jokes will forever be unmatched. You always made sure everyone was feeling litty and loved…it’s truly devastating."
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Detective Chief Superintendent Marc Bowes, leading the murder investigation for West Yorkshire Police, has issued a public appeal for witnesses. He described the case as an "extremely complex investigation" where a young woman has tragically lost her life.
"We are treating her death as murder and have arrested four people in connection with it. I am also keen to speak to anyone who was in the Kennerleigh Avenue area in the early hours of this morning, or anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the vicinity," DCS Bowes stated.
The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the events leading to Chloe's untimely death, with police urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing justice for the victim and her grieving family.
