Police Release Images of Four Men After Woman Raped in Bristol City Centre
Avon and Somerset Police have launched a major investigation and released images of four men they urgently wish to identify following a horrific rape in Bristol city centre. The incident occurred in the Assembly Rooms Lane area at approximately 3:05 am on Sunday, March 29, leaving the community in shock.
The victim, who was attacked in the early hours, provided an initial account to officers describing the suspects as Asian men believed to be in their twenties or thirties. Police responded swiftly, with first officers arriving at the scene within eight minutes of the report being made. The woman was immediately taken to a place of safety, where her welfare remains a top priority for authorities.
Intensive Investigation Underway
Since the incident, detectives have been conducting extensive investigative enquiries, including fast-track forensic analysis and a thorough review of security and CCTV footage from the area. Detective Chief Inspector Mark Almond emphasized the seriousness of the case, stating that while stranger rapes are not common, this crime is being treated with the utmost gravity.
"The first officers attended the scene within eight minutes of this rape offence being reported to us and helped to take the victim to a place of safety," DCI Almond said. "Her welfare has been of paramount importance to us. We will ensure she has the support she needs, not only now, but in the days and weeks ahead."
Suspects Seen Heading East
Based on CCTV evidence, police believe the four men were not present when officers arrived but were seen in the city centre on the night in question. Investigators have traced their movements, indicating they headed towards the eastern part of Bristol between 3:30 am and 4:00 am on Sunday.
DCI Almond added that "extra high visibility patrols" have been deployed in the city centre this week and will continue over the bank holiday weekend to reassure the public. "People will be understandably shocked and upset to learn of this awful crime," he continued, acknowledging the community's concerns.
