Police in Bolton have issued a stark warning to parents after youths turned streets into a 'warzone' by throwing lit fireworks at members of the public and officers.
Multiple Incidents Reported Across Bolton
Officers from the Bolton North Neighbourhood Team responded to numerous reports on Saturday, November 8, concerning dangerous fireworks use. The incidents occurred in the Queens Park area and Boardman Street area of Halliwell.
Authorities confirmed that a number of youths were stopped and searched following the disturbances. In a direct message to families, police emphasised the severe risks associated with such behaviour.
Direct Appeal to Parents Issued
Through their Bolton district Facebook page, police delivered a urgent message to parents: "If your children are out this evening, do you know where they are and what they are doing?"
The post detailed the gravity of the situation, stating: "We have seen youths lighting fireworks in their hand and throwing them towards members of the public and police officers. This is not safe and can result in serious injury or death."
Community Reaction and Wider Context
Local residents expressed their alarm in responses to the police social media post. One concerned individual described the situation as: "It's much worse than years ago it last for weeks and its like bombs going off, way to loud these days."
Another resident echoed these sentiments, commenting: "It's like a bloody war zone going off and it lasts for weeks."
This incident follows recent similar unrest in Birmingham, where four teenagers were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder after officers were attacked with fireworks and weapons were seized.
