A woman from Leeds was left feeling unsafe after discovering a parcel had been delivered inside her home while she was out and all doors were locked. The incident occurred on Monday, June 22, when she returned to her property to find the package sitting on an armchair in her living room.
Panic and confusion over mysterious delivery
The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said she immediately panicked, thinking she had left a door open. However, after checking the back door and finding it securely locked, her concern grew. She had been out for the day and no one else had keys to her home.
“I honestly have no explanation. No one else has keys to my house. I was not in the house. I left the house in the morning. I've come back, there's a package in my house. But then why would someone come into my house?” she said.
Security camera footage reveals delivery method
The woman reviewed footage from her security camera, located above the front door. It showed a man wearing a Royal Mail high-visibility vest approaching her property with what appeared to be the same parcel. The man checked if the front door was unlocked, then knocked and waited. The next clip showed him walking away from the right side of the home before disappearing from view.
“There is no obvious way of entry into my house. This is the most unnerved I've been, ever. Like, full stop. I don't like not understanding... how has someone come into my house?” she added.
Royal Mail response and investigation
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We are aware of the video, but would need the opportunity to investigate before drawing any conclusions about what happened. We would encourage the customer to get in touch and provide the relevant details so we can look into this properly.”
Vulnerable window latch discovered
The woman eventually deduced that the only possible entry point was her front window, which had been left on a latch while she was out. She tested the latch with a kitchen knife and, in less than 30 seconds, was able to lift it and open the window from outside before re-latching it.
“I am not feeling well, that makes me feel so unsafe. On another note though, just because you can [deliver parcels that way] doesn't mean you should. I know he's been really lovely in terms of he's delivered my package safely. The bright side is I've got my package and now I've learned that that can be done. I wouldn't have learned that could have been done if he didn't do that,” she said.
She warned other homeowners: “Your latches aren't as safe as you might have thought, do not leave your house with your windows unlatched because people can break in. I'm incredibly unnerved... It's just there's something about someone coming into your personal space. It's not a nice feeling.”
