45 arrested in Texas dog fighting ring bust

A major dog fighting operation in rural Texas has been dismantled following a dramatic police raid, resulting in the arrest of 45 individuals.

Operation Pitbull Uncovers Disturbing Scene

The bust, part of an investigation codenamed 'Operation Pitbull', was initiated in March 2025 after authorities received numerous complaints from the local community. Newton County Sheriff's deputies utilised advanced drone technology to locate lookouts, known as 'spotters', before moving in on the property.

Upon raiding the location, officers discovered an active dog fight in progress, a scene described by Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard as one of the most disturbing he has ever witnessed.

Cash, Drugs, and Firearms Seized

During the operation on Monday 24 November 2025, authorities seized substantial evidence. This included approximately $73,858 in cash, alongside illegal drugs and firearms.

Most importantly, two dogs were rescued from the scene. Both animals were found to be suffering from injuries sustained in the brutal fight.

Sheriff's Vow of Zero Tolerance

Sheriff Colton Havard issued a strong statement condemning the criminal network. He vowed that there would be no tolerance for such animal cruelty in his county.

The successful shutdown of this dog fighting ring sends a clear message that these barbaric practices will be met with the full force of the law.
