Detectives from the Metropolitan Police are urgently investigating a horrifying attack in which a woman was subjected to a brutal racist and sexual assault in a North London park.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Finsbury Park. The victim, a woman in her thirties, was approached by an unknown man who launched into a tirade of racist abuse before the attack escalated into a violent sexual assault.
Authorities have confirmed they are treating the incident as both a hate crime and a rape. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5'10" tall, of medium build, and with short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a dark-coloured hooded top and dark trousers.
Detective Inspector James Evans, leading the investigation, stated: "This was a truly horrific attack on a defenceless woman. We are dedicating significant resources to apprehend the individual responsible and are following several active lines of enquiry."
Police are now appealing to the public for assistance. They are urging anyone who was in the area of Finsbury Park between midnight and 2:30 am on Tuesday to come forward, especially if they witnessed any suspicious behaviour or have dashcam or doorbell footage that could aid the investigation.
The victim is currently receiving specialist support from trained officers as she begins her recovery from the traumatic ordeal.
