A Utah college campus was thrown into lockdown and a major police investigation was launched after a student allegedly issued a terrifying threat against a conservative event featuring commentator Charlie Kirk.
Tyler Robinson, a 25-year-old student at Utah Tech University, has been charged with making a terroristic threat and a threat of violence, both second-degree felonies, following the sinister message sent to organisers.
The Chilling Message That Shut Down a Campus
The incident unfolded on Wednesday as Turning Point USA, a conservative student group, was preparing to host an event with founder Charlie Kirk. According to court documents, Robinson allegedly sent a direct message to the group's Instagram account containing the harrowing threat: "I am going to kill everyone at the event tonight."
The threat triggered an immediate and massive response from the St. George Police Department and campus security. The venue was swiftly evacuated, and the entire campus was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure while armed officers swept the area. The event was subsequently cancelled, leaving attendees shaken.
A Swift Arrest and Ongoing Investigation
Law enforcement officials traced the threatening message back to Robinson's Instagram account. He was located and apprehended without incident. During a police interview, Robinson reportedly admitted to sending the message but claimed it was a "poorly conceived joke" and that he had no actual intention of carrying out the threat.
Despite his claims, the severity of the language prompted serious charges. Washington County Attorney Eric Clarke emphasised the zero-tolerance approach to such threats, stating, "Making threats of violence, especially in today's climate, is not a joke. It is a serious crime that consumes law enforcement resources and creates immense fear in the community."
Robinson was booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility. A judge set his bail at $10,000, and he was ordered to have no contact with Turning Point USA members and to stay away from the university campus as a condition of his release.
