O'Neill convinced his closest friends and family members that he was suffering from terminal cancer, creating an elaborate web of lies that netted him approximately €345,000 from those who trusted him most. The court heard how he went to extraordinary lengths to maintain his deception over several years.
Shocking Methods of Deception
Among the most disturbing aspects of the case was O'Neill's use of medical props to convince his victims. He was discovered to have inserted iPhone charging cables into his nose to simulate medical tubes, creating the appearance of someone undergoing intensive treatment.
