Britney Spears Told Police She Took Multiple Prescription Drugs Before DUI Arrest
Britney Spears Admitted Taking Multiple Prescription Drugs Before DUI

Harrowing new details have emerged from Britney Spears' DUI arrest in March, with the pop star confirming she had taken multiple prescription drugs before getting behind the wheel. The 44-year-old singer was arrested on March 4 after she was allegedly seen driving erratically at high speeds on US-101 near Newbury Park, California.

According to a police report obtained by USWeekly, Spears told officers she had taken 200mg of anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer Lamictal, 40mg of antidepressant Prozac, and 2.5mg of ADHD medication Adderall earlier that day. Officers also detected a distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage from inside her BMW when she was pulled over.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that Spears was subjected to multiple field sobriety tests before being taken into custody. She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs.

Details of the Arrest

Officers first stopped Spears after seeing her car illegally crossing into another lane. The singer allegedly did not immediately react to emergency lights and continued driving. When instructed to exit her vehicle, she initially refused, stating she had been pranked and harassed in the past. After 10 minutes, she complied.

During the stop, officers noted that Spears had red and watery eyes with dilated pupils. She claimed she was a 'zero' on a sobriety scale of zero to 10. Her speech was rapid and slurred, her gait unsteady, and she was fidgeting. She also exhibited drastic mood swings, shifting from confrontational and agitated to flamboyant, and reportedly spoke in a British accent at times.

Spears allegedly told an officer: 'I could probably drink four bottles of wine and take care of you, I'm an angel.' She later passed two chemical breath tests.

Evidence Found in the Car

Police found a brown purse containing a bottle of Adderall pills that were not prescribed to Spears. An empty wine glass was also observed in the cup holder between the front seats.

Spears was taken to the CHP Moorpark Office for a Drug Recognition Evaluation, then to Los Robles Medical Center for a blood draw. At the hospital, she became argumentative and belligerent, attempting to delay the procedure by asking to use the restroom. Officers placed her in handcuffs and secured her in a police vehicle.

Legal Outcome

Spears pleaded guilty to a DUI earlier this month and was sentenced to 12 months probation. Following her arrest, she checked into a substance abuse rehab facility for three weeks.

A representative for the singer told the Daily Mail: 'This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in the long-overdue changes that need to occur in her life.'

Background of Personal Struggles

Spears has faced public personal struggles for nearly two decades. In 2007, she suffered a harrowing breakdown, shaving her head and attacking a paparazzo's car with an umbrella. She was placed under a 13-year conservatorship in 2008, which ended in November 2021. More recently, she has been open about issues with her family, claiming she is 'scared' of them and 'lucky to be alive.'
