South Wales Police discovered a substantial amount of cannabis in vacuum bags inside a vehicle parked on Broad Street in Port Talbot. The find came after officers responded to community intelligence about a suspicious car that had been left unattended in the area for a number of weeks.
Discovery on Broad Street
The Port Talbot neighbourhood policing team acted on reports that an unknown person had been periodically depositing or removing packages from the vehicle. CCTV footage supported the intelligence, and while patrolling the location, two PCSOs noticed that the car door was ajar and a strong smell of cannabis was coming from inside.
The officers also spotted a bag inside the vehicle that appeared to contain controlled drugs. Due to the smell of cannabis, the gathered intelligence, and concerns that the vehicle had no insurance or a registered keeper, PCSO Davies requested assistance to attend and search the car.
Items seized for forensic work
PC Evans located a substantial amount of cannabis in vacuum bags, along with smaller snap bags ready for dealing. Illegal tobacco pouches, cigarettes, and cannabis gummies were also found in the vehicle. Following the discovery, the items and the vehicle were seized for further forensic work.
Inspector Andrew Price said: "This demonstrates the importance of building strong links within a community and acting on reliable community intelligence. This is an excellent result achieved through a desire from PCSOs to be inquisitive and relentless in their pursuit of solving community concerns."
He added: "Well done to the NPT team who came together to carry out the task of seizing, packaging, and exhibiting the items ready for investigation."
