Glasgow Beagle Mauled to Death by Bullmastiff; Owner Injured

A Glasgow couple is devastated after their beagle cross was mauled to death by a Bullmastiff, and the owner suffered a broken hand during the attack. Andrew Little, 39, and his wife Kate, 33, had moved to a new housing development in Robroyston just three weeks prior.

Attack Details

On Saturday evening, June 20, 2026, Andrew was walking Treacle and their other dog Bonnie on Daffodil Drive around 8pm. He told Glasgow Live: "I had walked 400 yards when I saw a big dog, so I crossed the road just in case. Then I realised it was off its lead, and within about 15 seconds, this big massive thing started to run towards us."

Andrew shouted to the owner, but within 20 seconds the Bullmastiff grabbed Treacle and ripped her undercarriage, exposing her intestines. The Bullmastiff's owner intervened by putting the dog in a chokehold to release Treacle.

Emergency Response

Andrew immediately called Kate and used a towel to hold Treacle's wound together as they rushed to the vet. Despite emergency surgery, Treacle had to be put down. The vet informed them that 50% of Treacle's organs had been exposed for too long, having been torn from her body.

Andrew said: "No words can amount to how much Treacle was loved and the immeasurable impact she had on our lives. There is absolutely no excuse or reason that Treacle's life should have ended in such a horrifically violent way."

Owner's Injuries and Fears

Andrew received treatment for a fractured hand and a tetanus injection in case he was bitten or clawed. He said he feels "helpless" without the use of his left hand. The couple also fears for their two-year-old daughter's safety if the aggressive dog remains unrestrained.

Andrew added: "That could have been my daughter, not just my dog, which I'm really scared about. It's a Bullmastiff. It's not like it's a small dog. When I say it ripped my dog to shreds I'm not even lying. It was horrible."

Community Concerns

The couple rescued Treacle from Dogs Trust about eight-and-a-half years ago, considering her a family member. They are now raising awareness about the dangerous animal in their locality, hoping measures will be taken to prevent further harm.

Kate told Glasgow Live: "We feel so unsafe. We've literally just moved into that house three weeks ago, and we're scared to leave our house with our two-year-old with this dog still roaming free and nothing has been put in place for it. We want to raise awareness because we don't feel like anything is being done."

Police Investigation

Police Scotland confirmed they received a report of a dog-on-dog attack on Daffodil Drive around 10.10pm on June 20, 2026. One dog was taken to the vet but later died. Enquiries are ongoing, and officers urge the public to come forward with information.

A spokesperson said: "Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3770 of 20 June, 2026."
