A reckless motorist who tore through residential streets at terrifying speeds while high on drugs has been locked up after a dramatic police chase ended in a catastrophic crash.
Demi-Leigh Cropper, 23, showed "appalling disregard" for public safety as she sped away from officers in her black BMW, weaving through traffic and ignoring red lights in a desperate bid to escape.
The pursuit reached its terrifying climax when Cropper, high on cocaine, lost control of her powerful vehicle and smashed into another car on a busy Nottingham road. The violent impact left her BMW a mangled wreck and caused significant damage to the innocent motorist's vehicle.
A Catalogue of Recklessness
Nottingham Crown Court heard how Cropper's driving descended into sheer madness:
- Reaching speeds double the legal limit in 30mph zones
- Overtaking dangerously on blind bends and crests
- Ignoring multiple red traffic signals
- Weaving aggressively through moving traffic
- Driving while under the influence of cocaine
Prosecutor Sarah Munro revealed that Cropper's driving was so extreme that experienced police officers were forced to abandon the chase for public safety reasons, continuing to follow at a distance before discovering the aftermath of the devastating crash.
Justice Served
Judge Steven Coupland delivered a stern sentencing, condemning Cropper's "prolonged, persistent and deliberate bad driving" which put countless lives at risk. He highlighted the particular danger of mixing drugs with powerful performance vehicles.
Cropper was sentenced to 14 months in prison and handed a driving ban of three years and seven months. She must also pass an extended retest before being allowed behind the wheel again.
This case serves as a stark warning about the devastating consequences of drug driving and the severe penalties awaiting those who choose to endanger lives on Britain's roads.
