Three brothers, aged six, eight and nine, have died after falling through ice on a private pond near Bonham, Texas. The accident occurred on Monday when the youngest boy attempted to 'ice skate' on the frozen pond, according to their mother, Cheyenne Hangaman.
Hangaman told the Associated Press that she ran into the freezing water and desperately tried to rescue her sons, but the ice kept breaking beneath them. 'They were just screaming, telling me to help them,' she said. 'And I watched all of them struggle, struggle to stay above the water. I watched all of them fight.'
The mother of six said she first learned of the tragedy when her daughter ran over, shouting that the boys had fallen into the icy pond near the family's temporary home. The two older brothers jumped in after the youngest in an attempt to save him, but all three drowned.
'I tried to fight for my kids' life, where I had to watch them struggle and drown and I couldn't help them,' Hangaman told CBS News. The boys were identified by family members as Howard Doss, six, Kaleb Doss, eight, and EJ Doss, nine.
