A German tourist's decision to wear a Nazi uniform to an Edinburgh pub ended in violence and hospital treatment after outraged patrons confronted him about his offensive attire.
The 22-year-old man, visiting Scotland from Germany, entered a popular Old Town establishment dressed in full Nazi regalia, complete with swastika armband and military-style cap. Witnesses described growing tension as other drinkers became increasingly angered by the inappropriate costume.
The Confrontation Escalates
According to police reports, the situation turned violent when another patron struck the German tourist with a heavy beer stein. The glass tankard, traditional to German drinking culture, caused significant facial injuries that required immediate medical attention.
"The man was bleeding heavily from facial wounds and clearly in distress," one witness reported. "There was shouting and confusion throughout the pub before staff intervened."
Emergency Response and Arrests
Paramedics rushed to the scene and transported the injured tourist to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment. Police confirmed his injuries, while serious, were not life-threatening.
Officers arrested a 41-year-old local man in connection with the assault and charged him with serious bodily harm. The accused appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court where he was released on bail pending further investigation.
