A Brazilian man whose penis was amputated by his wife will use the £3,000 compensation he received over the incident to re-marry her. Gilberto Nogueira de Oliveira was mutilated by his partner Daiane dos Santos Farias in Atibaia, in São Paulo state, Brazil.
Attack and Aftermath
Farias claims she attacked her husband after discovering he had cheated on her on her birthday back in 2023. She used the ruse of sex to tie Gilberto's hands with a pair of her panties. She then grabbed a knife and severed her partner's penis before flushing the organ down the toilet.
She turned herself into police the same night and confessed to the crime. Farias was eventually sentenced to four years and eight months in prison but she has since been granted parole and released from the Mogi das Cruzes Women's Penitentiary in November 2025, reports O Globo.
Reconciliation and Wedding Plans
Gilberto admitted he had missed her and sought to rekindle their relationship. They are now planning to get married again. During her time in prison, the former couple exchanged letters where Gilberto admitted he regretted the sexual encounter with his niece, while he forgave Farias for amputating his penis.
Gilberto received R$20,000 (a little more than £3,000) in compensation from the Hospital Santa Casa Misericórdia de Atibaia. The hospital was ordered to pay moral damages after photographs of his injuries were taken during his medical care were leaked and went viral on social media. He revealed he plans to use the compensation money to pay for a wedding while making a down payment on a penile prosthesis. He had originally sought R$100,000 (£15,140) in the lawsuit.
Ongoing Legal and Medical Issues
Gilberto said: "This compensation is very low. I want more. I need the money because I also want to renovate my house." The lawsuit reveals that shortly after his penis was severed, Gilberto was informed by doctors and nurses at Santa Casa de Atibaia that it was necessary to photograph the wound to assess the appropriate treatment.
He consented to the images being taken, but he later learned they were circulating in WhatsApp groups and on X (formerly Twitter). Farias had reportedly taken the drastic action after learning Gilberto had cheated on her with his niece. As well as flushing the severed appendage down the toilet, she also threw the victim's car keys out of the window to hinder efforts to get help.
Gilberto is pursuing reconstructive surgery through the public health system in Brazil. According to urologist Cesar Camara, though, the procedure is not very common in the South American country and is considered "high risk" in terms of achieving success. However, it is not thought to be dangerous for the patient.
