A dangerous offender has been locked up for 14 years after a brutal attack on an eight-month-old baby boy that left the infant fighting for his life in what a judge described as "every parent's worst nightmare".
Kane Mitchell, 28, was found guilty of attempted murder following the horrific assault that occurred in a family home in Manchester. The court heard how emergency services discovered the baby unconscious and barely breathing after responding to a distressed call.
A Life-Threatening Ordeal
Medical experts revealed the infant suffered catastrophic injuries consistent with severe shaking and physical assault. The baby required immediate hospitalisation and intensive medical treatment, with doctors initially fearing the worst.
"The level of violence used against such a vulnerable, defenceless child is beyond comprehension," Detective Inspector Sarah Jones told the court. "This was a sustained and brutal attack on a baby who should have been safe in his own home."
