Man Faces Court Over Alleged Domestic Violence Murder of Father in Emu Plains
A man has appeared in court accused of stabbing his father to death in an alleged domestic violence incident, marking a horrific start to the Easter long weekend in Sydney's west.

Emergency services were called to a residence on Clouta Place in Emu Plains at approximately 6:45 PM on Thursday after reports of a stabbing. Police arrived at the scene to find John Clark, aged 58, suffering from multiple stab wounds to his upper body. Despite receiving immediate treatment at the location, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead.
Arrest and Court Proceedings
His son, Evan Davis Clark, 30, was arrested at the home and taken to Penrith Police Station, where he was formally charged with murder, specifically categorized as a domestic violence offence. During his court appearance on Friday afternoon, Clark was unaware of his father's death, asking the magistrate, 'Is he dead?' to which the magistrate replied, 'Yes, Mr Clark, he is.' Clark did not apply for bail, which was formally refused, and he is scheduled to reappear in Penrith Local Court on May 29.

Police allege that the father and son had been heavily drinking and engaging in play-fighting before the stabbing occurred. Detective Acting Superintendent Michael Cantrell stated that several witnesses have been interviewed, but it remains unclear if anyone else was present in the home at the time. He confirmed that both individuals had a history of domestic violence, although there had been no recent police interactions related to such incidents.
Det Act Supt Cantrell expressed sympathy, noting, 'The Easter long weekend is supposed to be a time for families to come together, and for someone's family to start off a long weekend in such tragic circumstances is very tough.' He praised the police response, describing the scene as very confronting and commending the officers for their swift action in arresting the alleged offender.

The incident triggered a major emergency response, with over a dozen emergency vehicles blocking the usually quiet cul-de-sac. Residents reported hearing sirens from more than 5 kilometers away, and a police helicopter hovered overhead. Neighbors expressed shock, with one telling Nine News, '[It is] a quiet street, you would never think something like this would occur here.
