Controlling Husband Receives Life Sentence for Hot Tub Murder

A controlling husband who drowned his wife in their hot tub during a heated argument about their divorce has been sentenced to life imprisonment. Andrew Georgiou, aged 45, murdered his 42-year-old wife Carol at their home in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, before falsely claiming to police that he had been asleep during the incident.

The Fatal Evening and Deceptive Cover-Up

The couple had been out together on the evening of November 1, 2024, returning to their residence where Carol entered the hot tub. Prosecutors detailed how Georgiou pushed and held his wife underwater until she drowned, then waited forty minutes before dialling 999 in the early hours of November 2. He told emergency services he had been asleep inside the house and awoke to find her unresponsive, attempting to conceal his involvement.

Evidence presented in court revealed Georgiou's controlling behaviour, including installing cameras around the home and placing a tracking device on Carol's vehicle to monitor her movements as she planned to divorce him. After the murder, he disposed of these items to hide his actions and avoid allegations of coercive control.

Court Proceedings and Family Tributes

Georgiou pleaded guilty to one count of murder at Aylesbury Crown Court on December 9, 2023. On March 24, 2024, he was jailed for a minimum term of 15 years and 286 days before being eligible for parole. Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Michael Roddy stated, 'This tragedy has had a devastating impact on Carol's loved ones. Andrew Georgiou deliberately killed Carol because he was enraged at their impending divorce.'

In a heartfelt statement, Carol's family described her as 'a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend - kind, vibrant, and full of warmth.' They expressed, 'While we are relieved that justice has been served, no sentence will ever bring her back. Her boys were her whole world, and they have been robbed of growing up with her love.' The family also thanked Thames Valley Police for their dedication and urged victims of domestic abuse to seek help.

Broader Implications and Call for Awareness

This case underscores the severe consequences of domestic violence and controlling relationships. Authorities highlighted Georgiou's months of deception towards both families, including the couple's two sons, before overwhelming evidence led to his guilty plea. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of support systems for those experiencing abuse.
