Former UFC heavyweight contender Jairzinho Rozenstruik has been taken into custody in Florida this week following an alleged domestic battery incident. The 37-year-old mixed martial artist, widely known by his nickname 'Bigi Boy', was arrested on Monday by officers from the Pembroke Pines Police Department.
Details of the Alleged Incident
According to reports from NBC Miami, Rozenstruik faces formal charges of battery, touch or strike, and false imprisonment. The arrest stems from police responding to what was described as a 'suspicious incident' at a residential address in Pembroke Pines, located in the northern suburbs of Miami.
The victim informed authorities that the altercation began after she and Rozenstruik were returning from a storage unit. While the precise trigger for the dispute remains unclear, the situation escalated during the car journey.
Sequence of Events Described by Victim
The alleged victim stated that Rozenstruik slapped her hand multiple times, causing her to drop her mobile phone. When she attempted to exit the vehicle, he reportedly grabbed her arm to prevent her from leaving.
In what she described as an act of self-defence, the victim responded by punching Rozenstruik several times in an effort to break his grip and get out of the car. The situation intensified further when, according to the victim's account, Rozenstruik attempted to kiss her. After she declined, he became angered and bit her on the right bicep, leaving a visible bite mark.
Police Observations and Charges
Responding officers documented visible injuries on the victim, including redness on both forearms and a red scratch or bruise mark under her right eye. These observations contributed to the battery charges being filed.
As of Thursday morning, Rozenstruik remained in custody at the Broward County jail. Records from the Broward Sheriff's Office indicate he was placed on an immigration hold following his arrest. An initial bond was set at $3,500.
Rozenstruik's Fighting Career
Jairzinho Rozenstruik, a native of Suriname, competed in the UFC heavyweight division across 15 bouts between February 2019 and February 2025. His tenure with the promotion concluded after a loss to Sergei Pavlovich at UFC Saudi Arabia in February of last year, despite having won two of his final three fights with the organisation.
Since his departure from the UFC roster, the fighter has remained active in the sport, securing victories in two consecutive bouts under the banner of the Dirty Boxing Championship. His arrest marks a significant departure from his professional pursuits in the octagon, casting a shadow over his post-UFC career activities.
