Drug Dealer Blames Ex for Texts, Gets 34 Months

Kate Pullen, 32, has been sentenced to 34 months in prison for being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis, after a court heard she tried to blame her ex-partner for incriminating text messages. The texts, sent from her phone, showed she had runners making deliveries and operated a 'no tick' policy for customers.

Police Investigation and Arrest

In February 2026, South Wales Police's serious organised crime team identified a phone number used to send drug supply messages to users in Neath and Port Talbot. Prosecutor Alexandra Wilson said the operator referred to having 'runners' available for deliveries and stated that getting drugs 'on tick' was not an option. Police traced the number to Pullen and executed a search warrant at her home. No drugs were found, but her phone was seized and examined.

Denial and Blame

In her police interview, Pullen denied dealing drugs, claiming her ex-partner had sent the messages from her phone. However, she later pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine and cannabis at Swansea Crown Court. Pullen has eight previous convictions, including a 16-month sentence in April 2023 for possession of cocaine with intent to supply.

Breach of Suspended Sentences

At the time of the latest offences, Pullen was subject to two suspended sentences: one for battery and breaching a restraining order, and another for dangerous driving. The dangerous driving incident involved Pullen racing another driver along Fabian Way dual carriageway, with police reaching speeds over 100mph to catch her.

Defence and Sentencing

Defence barrister Jon Tarrant said Pullen's mother wrote a 'lengthy and heartfelt' letter detailing her daughter's struggles. Pullen told him, 'All I can say is, I'm sorry.' Recorder Mark Powell KC noted that the offending was financially driven by debts and acknowledged the 'genetic difficulties and environmental difficulties' Pullen faced. He described the mother's letter as 'very moving.'

Sentence

With discounts for guilty pleas, Pullen received 28 months for drug trafficking and six consecutive months for breaching suspended sentences, totaling 34 months. She will serve 40% in custody before release on licence.
