Notorious double murderer Colin Horne has died in prison while serving two life sentences for the brutal killings of his stepdaughter and her husband, the Scottish Prison Service has confirmed.
A Jealous Rage Turns Deadly
The 59-year-old was convicted in 2020 for the horrific murders of 30-year-old Claire Inglis and her husband 28-year-old David Law in their Aberdeen flat. The court heard how Horne's jealousy over his stepdaughter's relationship spiralled into unimaginable violence.
Horne subjected the young couple to a sustained and brutal attack in November 2019, leaving both victims with catastrophic injuries. The murders sent shockwaves through the local community and left families devastated.
Life Behind Bars Cut Short
A Scottish Prison Service spokesperson stated: "Colin Horne, 59, a prisoner at HMP Grampian has died on 21 October 2024. Police Scotland have been advised and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal. A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course."
Horne had been sentenced to life imprisonment with a punishment period of 26 years at the High Court in Glasgow. The judge described his actions as "brutal in the extreme" and noted the "sustained nature" of the violence inflicted upon his victims.
Community Still Healing
The tragic deaths of Claire Inglis and David Law left their families and the wider Aberdeen community in mourning. Friends described the couple as deeply in love and looking forward to building their future together.
Local residents expressed mixed emotions upon hearing news of Horne's death, with some stating that while no death should be celebrated, justice had taken its course. The case remains one of the most shocking domestic violence incidents in recent Scottish history.
Police Scotland confirmed they are conducting a routine investigation into the circumstances surrounding Horne's death in custody, as is standard procedure for all prisoner fatalities.
