A prominent 61-year-old businessman is being questioned by detectives after his wife was found fatally stabbed in what police are treating as a domestic murder investigation.
The tragic incident unfolded at the couple's £800,000 detached home in the affluent village of Brockham, Surrey, sending shockwaves through the quiet community.
Emergency Response to Luxury Residence
Surrey Police were called to the property on Wednesday afternoon following reports of a serious assault. Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman in her 60s with multiple stab wounds.
Despite the efforts of paramedics and air ambulance crews who performed emergency surgery at the scene, the victim was pronounced dead. Neighbours reported seeing multiple police vehicles and the air ambulance landing in a nearby field.
Suspect in Custody
The woman's husband, a local businessman, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. The couple, described as private individuals, were known to have lived in the area for several years.
Detective Chief Inspector Debbie White confirmed: "We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this investigation. This is being treated as an isolated domestic incident."
Community in Shock
Neighbours expressed their disbelief and horror at the tragedy unfolding in their normally peaceful village. One resident described the couple as "quiet and kept to themselves," while another mentioned they were "the last people you would expect this to happen to."
The investigation continues as forensic teams work meticulously at the property, which remains cordoned off with police tape.
