Bunnie XO, the wife of country music sensation Jelly Roll, has issued a powerful and personal warning to young people, urging them never to hitchhike. The 45-year-old podcaster and social media influencer drew from her own deeply troubling experience as a teenager to highlight the extreme dangers of accepting lifts from strangers.
A Chilling Podcast Revelation
The stark caution came during the January 9 episode of her Dumb Blonde podcast. While reading anonymous confessions from followers, Bunnie encountered a story about a hitchhiking trip involving the psychedelic drug LSD. The listener described running away from home, getting into a car with a group of men in their twenties, and being given the drug, later thanking their "guardian angels" for survival. They chillingly noted they "could have ended up on a milk carton," referencing the missing children campaigns that began in the 1980s.
This story resonated profoundly with Bunnie, who immediately recognised the peril. "I have crazy stories like that too, where it literally teaches you so many lessons in one situation," she shared, connecting it to her own past.
Bunnie's Own Terrifying Ordeal
Bunnie then recounted a specific incident from her youth, which she says ensured she would never hitchhike again. She and her lifelong best friend, LaTasha Marzolla, were walking near a trailer park when they were underage. "Some grown ass man picked us up and took us to his house," Bunnie revealed. The sole lure that convinced them to get into the vehicle was the man's luxury sports car. "A Porsche. That's all that it took for us. We were like, 'Oh, Porsche.'"
While she chose not to divulge the specific details of what transpired at the man's house, the experience was clearly traumatic. "The amount of s--- that we did," she stated, emphasising the severity of the situation. The lesson was brutally learned: "I'd never do that again. True. I learned a lesson." Her final warning to listeners was unequivocal: "Do not hitchhike. It's not cool."
A Message of Love and Resilience
This podcast admission follows closely on an interview Bunnie gave to Extra, where she outlined her life's mission. She expressed a deep desire to ensure "people know that they are loved." Having stood by Jelly Roll's side since before their 2016 wedding, through his struggles and his incredible near-200lb weight loss journey, Bunnie feels compelled to give back.
"I’m so thankful that God has blessed me in a way that I can give back to everybody," she said. "We just want people to know that they’re loved, and whatever we can do to help and bring smiles to anybody’s faces is exactly what we’re going to do." This philosophy undoubtedly extends to the hard-won safety lessons she shares with her two stepchildren, Bailee Ann and Noah.
Bunnie XO's journey from a vulnerable teenager making a dangerous decision to a influential voice advocating for safety and love is a powerful narrative. Her warning against hitchhiking is not based on hearsay, but on a personal, harrowing chapter of her life that she hopes others will never have to write for themselves.
