Bunnie XO, the wife of country music sensation Jelly Roll, has issued a powerful and personal warning to young people, urging them to never hitchhike. The 45-year-old podcaster and social media influencer shared her own traumatic teenage experience to highlight the extreme dangers of accepting lifts from strangers.
A Chilling Podcast Revelation
The topic arose during the January 9 episode of her Dumb Blonde podcast. While reading anonymous confessions from followers, Bunnie encountered one story about a hitchhiking trip involving the psychedelic drug LSD. The listener recounted running away from home and getting into a car with a group of men in their twenties, who shared the drug with them. They credited their "guardian angels" for their safety, starkly adding, "I could have ended up on a milk carton"—a reference to the missing children campaigns that began in 1980s America.
This story resonated deeply with Bunnie, who has been open about her troubled past, including sharing her seven mugshots. She revealed she knew the risks all too well from a similar incident in her youth.
Bunnie's Own Terrifying Ordeal
Bunnie recounted a specific time when she and her best friend of over 30 years, LaTasha 'Tasha' Marzolla, were walking near a trailer park as underage teens. A "grown ass man" in a luxury Porsche sports car picked them up and took them to his house.
"That's all that it took for us. We were like, 'Oh, Porsche,'" Bunnie admitted, highlighting how easily they were lured by the vehicle's status. She chose not to divulge the specific details of what transpired at the man's house but emphasised the severity of the situation.
"I have crazy stories like that too, where it literally teaches you so many lessons in one situation," she shared. The experience was a harsh teacher: "I'd never do that again. True. I learned a lesson." Her final warning to listeners was blunt: "Do not hitchhike. It's not cool."
A Message of Love and Caution
This cautionary tale aligns with Bunnie's recently stated life mission. In an interview with Extra, she expressed her determination to ensure "people know that they are loved." Having stood by husband Jelly Roll since before their 2016 wedding, she feels blessed to be in a position to give back without judgment.
"We just want people to know that they’re loved, and whatever we can do to help and bring smiles to anybody’s faces is exactly what we’re going to do," she stated. This philosophy undoubtedly extends to the hard lessons she passes on to her two stepchildren, Bailee Ann, 17, and Noah, 9.
Bunnie has supported Jelly Roll through every challenge, including his nearly 200lb weight loss journey. The singer recently revealed on The Joe Rogan Experience that his sex life was "horrible" before the transformation, candidly describing the physical difficulties he faced.
While acknowledging that hitchhiking isn't as common now as in the 1960s, Bunnie XO's message remains a vital and timeless warning about personal safety, born from lived experience and a desire to protect others.
