Ten-Year-Old Brazilian Girl Gives Birth After Stepfather's Repeated Rape
In a shocking case from Brazil, a ten-year-old girl gave birth after falling pregnant to her rapist stepfather. The abuse came to light only when the young victim went into labour on April 3, prompting immediate police intervention.
Arrests Made in Nova Olinda do Norte
On April 7, authorities arrested a 29-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman in Nova Olinda do Norte. The man is under investigation for the repeated rape of his stepdaughters, aged eight and ten, while the children's mother was detained for improper omission, having allegedly concealed the crimes.
The couple, whose names have not been released, fled their home in Itacoatiara to hide the girl's pregnancy. Police spokesperson Bruno Rafael stated, 'Throughout the investigations, we found that the couple left Itacoatiara for Nova Olinda do Norte a short time ago, along with the children, motivated by the physical changes caused by the pregnancy in the 10-year-old child's body.'
Medical Alert and Police Response
After giving birth, the ten-year-old was rushed to a hospital, where medical staff alerted police due to her age. The mother initially provided a contradicting statement to protect the stepfather, but investigators determined she was aware of the ongoing abuse and rape.
Rafael added, 'Tests confirmed that both sisters were victims of statutory rape. The justice system acted quickly, preventive detention was ordered; the mother lost custody of her daughters.' The mother was arrested at the hospital, and the stepfather was captured in the city centre.
Aftermath and Custody Arrangements
Following their rescue, the victims underwent specialised listening sessions, confirming the rapes were committed by their stepfather. The children have since been placed under the care of their aunt, ensuring their safety and support.
The two suspects remain in custody as judicial proceedings continue, highlighting the severe consequences of such heinous acts. This case underscores critical issues in child protection and legal accountability in Brazil.
