Trial date set for Levenshulme park murder accused

A preliminary trial date has been set in the case of a man accused of murdering a 24-year-old in a Levenshulme park.

Glenn Shitama, 23, was not required to attend the brief hearing at Manchester Crown Court on Friday morning (August 21).

Incident on Chapel Street

Greater Manchester Police said they were called to reports of a stabbing on Chapel Street at around 7pm on Saturday (August 15) close to Chapel Street Park. A 24-year-old man had sustained serious stab wounds.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, he sadly died at the scene. He has since been named as Zherko Rasul Osman.

Court proceedings

At the preliminary hearing on Friday, prosecutor Philip Hall said the trial had a ten day estimate, and a date had been fixed for January 18, 2027.

A pretrial and preparation hearing has been set for November 3. Legal and administration matters were also discussed between Mr Hall, defence counsel Tom Watson and judge Suzanne Goddard KC.

Charge and remand

Mr Shitama, of no fixed abode, is charged with murder and possession of a bladed weapon. He was further remanded into custody until the next hearing.
