Greater Manchester Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man who was stabbed in Failsworth, Oldham, over a month ago. The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Steven Dossett, who died in hospital on July 4, 2026, after being attacked on June 19.
Attack and Emergency Response
Police and paramedics were called to Hale Lane in Failsworth at around 9.50pm on June 19 following reports of a 'shocking' stabbing. A large emergency response attended the scene, and a man was found with stab wounds. He was rushed to hospital for treatment but tragically died on July 4. A significant police presence remained at the scene the following day as investigations into the knife attack continued.
Arrests and Bail
Four men and one woman, aged between 17 and 45, were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and assault offences in connection with the incident. They have all been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Family and Police Appeal
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that Mr. Dossett's family are 'devastated' and have requested privacy. Detective Chief Inspector Anna Barker, the Senior Investigating Officer from GMP’s Major Incident Team, stated: “This was a shocking attack, which has now evolved into a murder investigation following the death of Steven last week. His family are being supported by specialist officers at this time, and we are keeping them updated as our work continues at pace.”
She added: “While we have made several arrests, we are still appealing for information and would urge anyone who witnessed anything of significance, or has any information relating to this incident, to please contact us. Even the smallest of detail may assist our enquiries.”
