Death Notice for Teen Killed in M9 Wrong-Way Crash

A death notice has been released for one of the five teenagers who lost their lives in a devastating crash on the M9 motorway over the weekend.

Five teenage boys were killed after they drove a high-powered BMW the wrong way along the M9, colliding with a family who were travelling to Dublin Airport in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The BMW is believed to have been travelling at speeds exceeding 120km/h when it struck the Hyundai near Junction 3 of the M9 in Co Kildare at around 3am on Sunday.

Victims Identified

Jeremy O'Brien, 18, from Carlow, Alex McCarthy, 16, from Carlow, Joey Carthy, 15, from Athy, Kildare, Jack Kennedy, 17, also from Athy, and Kamil Pustkowski, 17, from Limerick, all lost their lives in the collision.

On Wednesday, a death notice was published for Alex, who will be sadly missed by his family, including his "heartbroken" parents and girlfriend, along with his many extended family members and friends, reports the Irish Mirror.

Death Notice Details

His death notice on RIP.ie reads: "Alex McCarthy, Carlow, passed away suddenly on 16 August 2026, aged 16 years.

"Deeply loved by his heartbroken mother Lucelle and father Edward. Adored brother of Jordan, Edward, Donna and Nakita. Cherished grandson of Tina Roycroft and William and Mary McCarthy.

"Alex will be sadly missed by parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, loving and heartbroken girlfriend Georgia, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives and friends. May Alex's soul rest In peace."

Funeral arrangements are yet to be confirmed.
