Boy, 14, Arrested on Suspicion of Murder After Body Found

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body, believed to be that of missing schoolgirl Lilly, was discovered in a park in Blaina, Wales. Gwent Police confirmed the arrest on June 23, 2026, following the discovery of remains in Duffryn Park on Monday evening. Formal identification is pending, but officers believe the body is that of the 14-year-old girl who was reported missing from the Blaina area on Saturday, June 20.

Police Investigation Underway

Detective Chief Inspector Steven Thomas of Gwent Police stated that enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death. The arrested boy, from the Blaenau Gwent area, remains in police custody for questioning. Forensic investigators were still present at Pilgrims Park on June 23, and the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in line with standard procedures.

DCI Thomas urged the public to come forward with any information, saying, "We continue to have a significant police presence in the area and understand the concern amongst our communities at this time. Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and we currently have one person in police custody being questioned." He also discouraged online speculation, noting it could impact the investigation.
