The agonising six-year mystery surrounding a missing Scottish backpacker has been brought to a tragic close after human remains found in a remote Jordanian cave were formally identified.
The skeleton is that of Moray McPhail, a 35-year-old from Oban, who vanished during a solo hiking trip in Wadi Rum in July 2018. His disappearance launched an international search effort and left his family in a state of perpetual anguish.
The breakthrough came in recent weeks when local authorities discovered the remains in a cave located in a notoriously difficult-to-reach area of the vast desert landscape. The Jordanian government, along with Interpol, confirmed the identity using dental records, finally providing his family with the answers they had desperately sought for years.
A Family's Agonising Wait
Mr. McPhail's family released a heartfelt statement, expressing their profound grief alongside a sense of relief at finally knowing his fate. They described him as a 'much-loved son and brother' with a passionate spirit for adventure and exploration.
