Red Lobster Closes Historic First Restaurant After 56 Years
Red Lobster Shuts Tallahassee Landmark After 56 Years

Red Lobster, the beloved seafood chain, is closing its oldest restaurant in Tallahassee, Florida, after 56 years of operation. The historic location will shut its doors permanently on Sunday, May 24, as part of the company's broader strategy to revitalise its brand following a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in May 2024.

Closure as Part of Revival Strategy

The closure of the Tallahassee landmark is one of several moves by Red Lobster to streamline its operations. Since filing for bankruptcy, the chain has closed over 100 underperforming restaurants across the United States. The company emerged from bankruptcy in September 2024 after being acquired by RL Investor Holdings LLC, which injected approximately $70 million in new investment.

New Leadership and Menu Overhaul

Under the leadership of CEO Damola Adamolekun, Red Lobster has implemented a comprehensive revival plan. This includes reviewing all restaurant leases, closing sites that are not performing well, overhauling the menu, and refreshing the marketing strategy. The chain recently reintroduced its popular all-you-can-eat Endless Shrimp promotion, which had previously caused the company to lose about $11 million in 2023. The return of this promotion is seen as a key part of the effort to attract customers back to the brand.
