Man dies in 'violent' karaoke bar attack; murder probe launched

A murder investigation has been launched after a man in his 30s was found dead with serious injuries inside a karaoke bar in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, following what police described as a 'violent and shocking' attack.

Emergency services were called to Blues Cabaret and Karaoke Bar, formerly known as Olivers Bar, on Bow Street, at approximately 2:40am on Sunday, July 12. The victim, a man believed to be in his early 30s, was discovered with injuries consistent with an assault.

Despite paramedics' efforts, including CPR, the man became unresponsive and stopped breathing. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:48am.

Arrest and police statement

A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. Detective Superintendent Ian McNabb of Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said: 'This was a violent and shocking attack that tragically took the life of a young man. Our thoughts remain with his family and loved ones at this difficult time.'

McNabb added: 'We are working at pace to establish the full circumstances of this incident, and whilst no formal identification has taken place yet, the believed family of the victim has been informed and is being supported by our specialist officers.'

Appeal for information

Police believe the attack was isolated and poses no wider threat to the public. A scene remains in place, and forensic teams have been spotted in the town centre. Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with footage from the area to come forward.
