Daughter Allegedly Hired Hitmen to Kill Mother Over Job Dispute
A 23-year-old daughter allegedly hired hitmen to kill her widowed mother and stage it as an accident so she could inherit property and secure a government job, police said. Neeraj Sharma, 45, was killed instantly on July 3 in Jaipur, India, after being struck by a car traveling nearly 80mph, which threw her nearly 100ft from the vehicle.
CCTV Footage Shows Fatal Incident
CCTV footage released by police showed the impact and an SUV speeding away at around 4.45pm in the Pratap Nagar region of Jaipur. Seven people have been arrested, including the daughter Ayushi, her paternal uncle Mohan Swaroop (56), alleged hitman Hemant Sharma (20), and four accomplices. Mohan Swaroop’s son and Ayushi’s cousin, Balram, is absconding.
Investigation Launched After Brother Reports Murder
The investigation began after Neeraj’s brother Rakesh filed a murder report. He said Neeraj had complained that her daughter was harassing her over property. “Neeraj learnt about her daughter’s violent tendencies. She confided in her brother that Ayushi was going down a very dangerous path,” a police official said.
Motivation: Government Job on Compassionate Grounds
Police said Ayushi hatched the plan because she wanted a government job that had been given to her mother on compassionate grounds after her father died about a year ago. Vijay Kumar Sharma had worked as a lower division clerk at a court, so Neeraj received the job. “Ayushi blamed her mother for ruining her future by not letting her get the government job,” a police officer said.
Failed Attempt and Final Plot
Police said Ayushi, Mohan Swaroop, and Balram began plotting to kill her and had a failed attempt using a rented SUV. They allegedly hired Hemant Sharma for 700,000 Rs (£5,467) to execute the murder, who then hired four associates. Balram allegedly arranged another SUV, and the trio monitored Neeraj for nearly a month. The SUV believed used in the murder has been seized.
