Blackburn Woman Dies After Setting Herself on Fire

A tragic incident has claimed the life of a 22-year-old woman from Blackburn after she set herself on fire. Shawgar Rasul Hama succumbed to severe burns at Wythenshawe Hospital in Greater Manchester on May 23, 2026.

Miss Hama was rushed to the hospital's specialist burns unit following the incident. At a brief inquest opening at Preston Coroners' Court, Area Coroner Kate Bisset confirmed the circumstances. "This lady died as a consequence of burns having set herself on fire," Ms. Bisset stated.

The court heard that Miss Hama was born in Iraq in 2003 and resided at Greenhurst Close in Blackburn. Her identity was confirmed to police using her medical wristband at the hospital.
