YouTuber Names Oxford Circus as Worst London Tube Station

A YouTuber who once lived in London for six years has returned to the capital to rank its Tube stations, ultimately naming Oxford Circus as the worst in the city. David Burnip, who now creates content under the username Wandering Turnip, spent a day traversing the London Underground to determine which station is the most dreadful.

The Final Verdict

In a 30-minute video, David visited several stations before narrowing his choice down to two finalists: Bank and Oxford Circus. Although the decision was close, he eventually settled on Oxford Circus as the worst. He explained: 'The worst one, well, I wanted to say Bank because you just end up spending so long in there but at least you're on your own down there and if you did get stuck, a little bit of peace and quiet might be nice. It's got to be Oxford Circus, just don't do it to yourself, don't do it.'

Rush Hour Chaos

Earlier in the footage, David attempted to enter Oxford Circus during rush hour, a time when the station is notoriously packed with commuters and tourists. However, he failed to gain entry, noting the extreme crowding and confessing he did not wish to 'descend into that chaos'. He also pointed out that some entrances are closed during peak times, remarking: 'Never know why they do this. They always have loads of it blocked off as if that's useful. I'm not sure I can do it guys. I'm not sure I can descend into that chaos, I think we're just going to have put Oxford Circus right up there with those bad, bad Tube stations.'

Other Stations Visited

Despite retreating from Oxford Circus, David managed to visit several other stations, including Bank, London Victoria, and Neasden, among others. His journey was part of a quest to uncover the worst Tube station for his channel.

Paddington Named Best Station

In contrast to David's findings, a recent Tripadvisor survey crowned Paddington station as the finest in the country, achieving an impressive average score of 4.1 out of five from 2,000 reviews. The bustling hub was praised for its excellent amenities, including toilets, cafés, and a beloved statue of Paddington Bear. One reviewer said: 'Nice station. Friendly staff. Good cafes. Large platforms. Pretty trains. Clean toilets. Tasty food and many different shops. Comfy seats. Clear departure boards. Big place. Easy underground links.' Another added: 'It's an amazing place for Paddington fans. The statue is a nice photo place, and they have a Paddington shop with cute collectables.'
