Motorists across Britain could save over £10 per trip by activating a feature on their mobile device that avoids toll roads. The M6 toll is among the most expensive, costing £10.50 for a standard car to travel through all three zones.
Approximately 20 toll roads and bridges exist in Britain, with charges varying considerably. Vans face higher fees while motorcyclists benefit from reduced rates.
To avoid tolls, drivers can adjust preferences on Google Maps by tapping the three dots in the upper-right corner after obtaining directions, selecting 'route options', and enabling 'avoid tolls'. Alternatively, this can be set as a default in the navigation settings.
The 'route options' section also allows users to bypass motorways and ferries, providing further flexibility for cost-conscious travellers.
