Two A19 Incidents Cause Long Rush Hour Delays

Two separate incidents on the A19 caused lengthy delays during Wednesday morning rush hour. A three-vehicle crash on the northbound carriageway near the Herrington Interchange in Sunderland and a broken-down bus on the southbound carriageway near the Murton interchange in County Durham led to significant tailbacks.

Incident Details

Both incidents were reported after around 6:30am. Northumbria Police confirmed they were alerted to the northbound crash at 7:30am. The southbound incident, involving a broken-down bus, was reported to Durham Constabulary at around 6:50am. While no road closures were in place, the carriageways were partially blocked for several hours.

Impact on Traffic

At one stage, tailbacks stretched between the Seaton interchange and Washington in both directions. The southbound incident cleared first, but the northbound incident was resolved by 10am, with the road fully reopened. Motorists were advised to use alternative routes during the delays.
