At least 32 people have died in two separate road incidents in Turkey, when vehicles collided with emergency responders at the scenes of earlier accidents.
The first crash occurred near Nizip in Gaziantep province on Saturday morning, when a bus ploughed into rescue crews and journalists attending a prior car accident. Sixteen people were killed and 21 injured, including three firefighters, two emergency workers and two journalists, according to the Gaziantep governor.
Hours later, in Derik, Mardin province, a lorry with brake failure hit a crowd, killing 16 and injuring 29, eight seriously, said Health Minister Fahrettin Koca. The crowd included emergency workers responding to a three-vehicle crash, reported Anadolu news agency.
Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag has announced an investigation into the Gaziantep crash. No connection between the two incidents has been reported.
