Ryanair has provoked a backlash with a new social media post telling passengers to "stop" doing skincare routines during flights. The low-cost carrier, known for its humorous online presence, shared a nine-word message on Facebook: "stop doing skincare onboard, it's a 2 hour flight". Within 24 hours, the post has drawn thousands of reactions, shares and responses.
Passengers hit back at Ryanair's post
Many passengers have responded defiantly to the airline's message. Dari Dunkova commented: "If your boyfriend is waiting you on the airport, make up and skincare in the plane is mandatory". Selim Duman took aim at Ryanair's hand luggage rules, writing: "Stop measuring my bag with a ruler like it's national security, it's a 2-hour flight".
Lauren Price said: "I'll do whatever I want on the flight thank you very much". Hannah Elizabeth Webster shared: "I know this is rage bait but I'm still enraged at the audacity".
Skincare trend takes off
Performing skincare routines during flights has become a trend in recent years, partly driven by social media users highlighting that aircraft cabins have very low humidity levels, which can dry out skin and compromise its protective barrier. For those worried about their complexion while flying, drinking plenty of water can help.
Guidance on London Luton Airport's website stresses the importance of completing most of your skincare routine before boarding the plane. Dr Nora Jafaar said: "The biggest mistake is waiting until you're already at 40,000 feet to think about your skin, as flying can leave it feeling dehydrated and tight. Your pre-flight routine is where you should be doing most of the work."
"Flying is tough on our skin. Low cabin humidity, makeup and disrupted routines can leave skin dry, dull or congested by the time we land. The key is to start before boarding and keep it simple in the air. A few skin-type-specific steps, using products already in your routine, can make a real difference."
