A Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, was forced to turn back after a passenger was partially sucked through a cabin window that dislodged mid-flight. The incident occurred on a Boeing 737-800 shortly after its 5:55am local time departure on Friday, 10 July 2026.
Passenger Pulled Through Window Up to Shoulders
According to reports, the male passenger was pulled through the opening up to his shoulders, leaving his head outside the aircraft. Passengers reported hearing a loud bang before the emergency unfolded. The aircraft managed to make a normal landing back in Greece following the mid-air scare.
Ryanair confirmed in a statement: "A Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki to Memmingen on Friday morning (10 July) returned to Thessaloniki shortly after take-off when a passenger window dislodged inflight. The aircraft landed normally and passengers returned to the terminal."
Medical Assistance and Replacement Aircraft
One passenger requested and received medical assistance on the ground in Thessaloniki. The remaining passengers were transferred to a replacement aircraft, which departed Thessaloniki at 9:53 local time to continue to Memmingen. Ryanair added: "In order to minimise any delay, a replacement aircraft was arranged to bring passengers to Memmingen."
The airline did not provide further details on the passenger's condition or the cause of the window dislodgement. The incident is under investigation.
