Roku has quietly expanded its free live TV offerings with the addition of four new channels, primarily targeting sports enthusiasts. The new channels are now available on The Roku Channel, which already boasts over 500 free, ad-supported live channels.
New Sports Channels Highlight the Expansion
Among the additions is FIFA Plus Women, a channel dedicated to women's football, along with its Spanish-language counterpart, FIFA Plus Español. These channels provide coverage of women's football leagues and tournaments, appealing to a growing audience.
Another notable addition is the Sports Illustrated channel, which offers updates on various sports leagues, including highlights, analysis, and news. For fishing enthusiasts, Stingray Hooked has been added, providing content focused on fishing techniques, destinations, and competitions.
Roku's Growing Free TV Platform
These channels join a vast lineup of free live TV on The Roku Channel, which continues to attract viewers with its no-cost, ad-supported model. The expansion comes on the heels of a strong first quarter for Roku, where platform revenue surged by 28 per cent year-on-year, driven by advertising and subscription growth.
Roku's strategy of adding niche and sports content aims to retain and grow its user base, as competition in the streaming space intensifies. The company has reported 'outstanding' results, with increased engagement and revenue from its platform.
Customers can access these new channels immediately through The Roku Channel on their Roku devices or compatible platforms.
