Oxford Street pedestrianisation: all bus route changes

Oxford Street will be closed to traffic from Monday, October 26, with a nearly 1km stretch between Orchard Street near Selfridges and Great Portland Street pedestrianised. The change affects multiple bus routes, which will be diverted or shortened.

Buses, cars, taxis, bicycles, e-bikes, e-scooters and pedicabs will be banned from the affected stretch at all times. Preparations start on Saturday, October 24, with buses stopping services through the area from the evening of Sunday, October 25.

Daytime bus route changes

Transport for London (TfL) says five daytime routes are affected. Route 7 will terminate at Cumberland Gate near Marble Arch instead of Oxford Circus, with passengers able to change to route 98 on Edgware Road. Route 94 will also terminate at Marble Arch, with passengers changing to routes 98 or 390.

Routes 98, 139 and 390 will be diverted via Wigmore Street and Henrietta Place, serving replacement stops nearby. Routes 55 and 73 are not permanently rerouted, though temporary roadworks may affect journeys.

Night bus changes and passenger impact

Night services N7, N113 and N137 will terminate at Cumberland Gate, with passengers changing to N98, 139 on Baker Street, or 390 on Park Lane. Routes N98 and N207 will be diverted via Wigmore Street and Henrietta Place. The 24-hour routes 94, 139 and 390 will follow revised overnight routes.

Replacement stops will be around 200 metres from the traffic-free section, meaning longer walks. Some journeys will require a change at Marble Arch or nearby stops. North-south crossings including Regent Street, Duke Street and Great Portland Street remain open. Cyclists and e-bike users are banned, but mobility scooters are allowed. Emergency vehicles retain access.

TfL advises passengers to check journeys and allow extra time, especially in the first few days. Tube and rail services continue as normal, with Bond Street, Oxford Circus, Tottenham Court Road and Marble Arch among nearby stations.
