A body has been found in the search for a man from south Manchester who went missing in Colombia, his family have been told.
Anton Green, 43, from Whalley Range, had been living in the South American country for around two and a half years. His family became worried after he stopped responding to messages to loved ones in August this year, and launched an appeal for help in tracing him.
Family 'devastated' by news
They now say they have been told a body had been discovered and that it is believed to be him. They told the BBC they had been left 'devastated' by the development and that they were 'trying to come to terms with what's happened.'
A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed to the broadcaster that the body of a British man had been found in Colombia.
Life in Colombia
Anton's family told the Manchester Evening News last month that he decided to travel three years ago. After visiting a few destinations in Europe, the 43-year-old decided to travel to South America. Fluent in Spanish, he spent some time in Colombia where he decided to settle on the outskirts of the capital as he took a liking to the way of life, culture and cost of living in the country.
According to his family, he had lived near the capital city of Bogota and had stayed around the Fontibon and Mesita Del Colegio areas. He had moved homes weeks before his disappearance, they said.
Mental health struggles
His sister Sian Tuohey said he had 'major struggles with his mental health' last year and that for the last 12 months they had been 'keeping an eye on him.'
