Manchester Airport has issued a warning to passengers: avoid wearing shoes that are difficult to remove, or risk delays at security. The advice comes as part of the airport's 'Ultimate Airport Guide', which offers tips, hints and travel hacks to help passengers make the most of their journey.
Prepare Your Outfit for Security
The airport explicitly advises passengers to check their outfits before leaving home. According to the guide, travellers should wear shoes that can be taken off and put on easily. It also recommends avoiding fiddly belts, fastenings, and excess jewellery, as these can cause hold-ups. Passengers are urged to keep pockets empty of non-essentials.
Manchester Airport said: "To prepare your outfit for security, wear shoes that you can take off and put on easily. Avoid fiddly belts or fastenings in your clothes and excess jewellery. Try and keep your pockets empty of non-essentials."
Layer Up for the Flight
While keeping security in mind, the airport also advises passengers to bring layers for the flight itself. The guide notes: "Temperatures aboard flights can vary so wearing a few removable layers is advised. An extra jumper can always be used as a pillow if nothing else."
Another practical tip is to wear heavy items of clothing to save luggage weight. The airport suggests: "Check the weight of your luggage before leaving for the airport. If you only need to bring down the weight of your luggage a little bit, try wearing the heaviest items of clothing in your bag – it may save you paying for extra luggage."
Tech and Luggage Tips
For electronics, Manchester Airport recommends bringing a battery pack in hand luggage. The guide states: "If you think you may use your electronic devices on the plane, consider bringing a battery pack. Many planes have USB ports but it’s not guaranteed, especially on lower cost airlines."
To make luggage easier to spot on the carousel, the airport suggests decorating suitcases with colourful decorations.
Security Lane Choice
Upon arrival at the airport, passengers are advised to choose the left-hand security lanes. Manchester Airport explains: "If given the choice of security lanes, pick the left. Most passengers are right handed and will subconsciously prefer the right, making the left a little quieter." For those wanting to skip queues, FastTrack tickets are available for a few pounds, providing access to priority lanes before Security and Passport Control.
