Passengers at Manchester Airport have once again faced significant delays due to long queues for security, with some travellers reporting waits of up to two hours. The situation has been described as a 'shambles' and 'appalling' by those affected, with some individuals missing their flights as a result.
The airport has apologised for the inconvenience and stated that it is doing everything possible to minimise disruption. However, travellers have been advised to arrive three hours before their flight and to ensure hand luggage complies with security rules to help ease the process.
Various factors have been blamed for the delays, including staff shortages and a spike in travel demand. Similar issues have also been reported at Heathrow, Stansted, and Birmingham airports, where passengers described scenes of 'absolute chaos' and 'manic' conditions.
Ben Leather, a 25-year-old regular traveller between Dublin and Manchester, arrived four hours early for his flight. He expressed sympathy for the understaffed workforce, saying they are 'bearing the brunt of disgruntled people'. Another passenger, Ryan Hoey, 23, only just made it through security in time for his 07:00 BST flight to Belfast.
A Manchester Airport spokesman acknowledged the ongoing challenges, stating that while progress is being made in the recovery from the pandemic, longer queues may still occur. The airport continues to advise passengers to plan ahead and follow security guidelines to avoid missing their flights.
