The M1 motorway in Buckinghamshire was partially closed on New Year's Eve following a collision that led to an oil spill, causing significant travel disruption.
The incident occurred on the northbound carriageway between junction 14 near Milton Keynes and junction 15 for Northampton at around 5:30am. All lanes were initially shut, leading to tailbacks of up to two miles.
National Highways confirmed that the scene has now been cleared and all lanes have reopened. In a statement on X, they said: "The scene is now clear and all lanes have re-opened on the #M1 in #Buckinghamshire northbound between J14 (#MiltonKeynes) & J15 (#Northampton) following a collision which resulted in an oil spill."
Earlier, two of the four lanes remained closed while cleanup and assessment work took place. Motorists were advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
Normal traffic conditions are expected to resume later this morning. The closure caused delays for holiday travellers, but the motorway has now fully reopened.
