Drivers across Greater Manchester should expect delays this week as roadworks continue on key routes, including closures and temporary traffic lights in Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan.
Roadworks are carried out for reasons including road changes, emergency repairs and utility company work. A 2025 parliamentary transport committee report noted: “They can also be a source of frustration for anyone trying to get around on roads and pavements by causing congestion and delays that harm the economy, disrupt transport services and limit access to high streets and businesses.”

Bolton and Bury closures
In Bolton, A579 Bury Road has temporary traffic lights due to electricity work between A58 Bury Road and B6208 Ainsworth Lane until 30th August. A666 Blackburn Road in Egerton has temporary lights for gas main work between Stanrose Close and B6472 Darwen Road until 4th September. Spa Road is closed for electricity work between Walker Street and White Lion Brow until 23rd August.
In Bury, A58 Bury and Bolton Road in Ainsworth has temporary lights for emergency repairs and gas main work at Starling Way until 18th August. A676 Bolton Road in Hawkshaw has temporary lights for water main work at Stanmere Court until 17th August.
Manchester and Oldham works
A6010 Alan Turing Way Northbound in Manchester is closed for emergency repairs from A635 Ashton Old Road to Wilson Street until 11th September. B5093 Wilmslow Road in Fallowfield has temporary lights for roadworks from A6010 Wilmslow Road to Sherwood Street until 25th January 2027.
In Oldham, A62 Oldham Way is closed in both directions at Manchester Street roundabout until 25th September, with a diversion to the roundabout and straight back on. A671 Rochdale Road Northbound is closed from B6195 Middleton Road to Radcliffe Street until 29th January 2027. A6052 Denshaw Road in Delph has temporary lights for gas main work between Pingle Lane and Slack Lane until 12th October. B6195 Middleton Road in Royton has temporary lights in two locations until 29th January 2027.
Salford, Stockport and Tameside
In Salford, A34 New Bailey Street has roadworks and a contraflow at Gore Street until 18th May 2027. A576 Cromwell Road has temporary lights at London Street until 4th September. A5066 Ordsall Lane has temporary lights at Taylorson Street South until 8th January 2027 and between Guy Fawkes Street and Nine Acre Drive until 28th August.
In Stockport, A523 Macclesfield Road in Hazel Grove is closed for gas main work between A5143 Dean Lane and Melford Road until 30th August. A560 Hyde Road and A560 Stockport Road East have roadworks and restrictions until 28th August, as does A627 George Lane in Woodley.
In Tameside, A57 Mottram Moor Eastbound has one lane closed due to long-term roadworks from Stalybridge Road to A6018 Back Moor until 31st December 2027. B6175 Huddersfield Road has temporary lights for gas main work between Staley Hall Road and Parkfields until 21st August.
Trafford and Wigan
In Trafford, A6144 Manchester Road in Carrington has temporary lights between Carrington Business Park and Common Lane until 17th August. A6144 Warburton Lane in Partington has temporary lights between Hankinson Close and Cross Lane West until 25th August. Langham Road in Bowdon is closed between B5162 South Downs Road and B5163 Ashley Road until 28th August. B5214 Crofts Bank Road in Urmston has temporary lights for water main work from Derby Road to Sumner Way until 16th August.
In Wigan, A58 Gerard Street Southbound in Ashton in Makerfield is closed from A5062 Wigan Road to A49 Bryn Street until 22nd November. A580 East Lancashire Road Eastbound has one lane closed from Golborne Island to the B5207 until 30th September. A49 Wigan Road in Standish has temporary lights at Roundmoor Road until 14th October. A572 Manchester Road in Astley has temporary lights for gas main work at South Lane until 20th September. B5238 Poolstock has temporary lights for water main work at Pool Street until 19th August, and B5238 Wigan Road in Aspull has temporary lights for gas main work between Higher Lane and Dukes Row until 1st September.
